NAGPUR: Dhyanchand Academy trounced DSA Central Railway 3-1 to clinch the title of the Gafoor Bhai Memorial Hockey tournament, organized by the Nagpur United Club, at the VHA ground on Sunday.
From the word go, Dhyanchand Academy dictated the terms. In the 11th minute, Aquib Rahim converted a penalty corner to give 1-0 lead. A couple of minutes later, Rahul Kalakoti doubled the lead as they led 2-0 at the half time.
After the change of ends, Amir Khan struck a brilliant field goal to swell the lead. Trailing by three goals, the railmen tried hard but poor finishing inside the circle undid all their efforts.
Chief guest Girish Gandhi and VHA president Radheshyam Sarda distributed the prizes. Sarda announced that the VHA will conduct festival hockey tournament every Sunday for next two months for sub juniors and seniors in both men and women sections. During the matches, VHA will also provide lunch to all the participating teams. For more details, interested can contact VHA office in the evening.
