Ravichandran Ashwin promises personal help to Chennai flood victims

Ravichandran Ashwin was named man-of-the-series after taking 31 wickets in India's 3-0 series win over South Africa.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who was named man-of-the-series for his 31 wickets in the four-Test rubber against South Africa, said he would personally go down to his home town Chennai and help its flood-affected citizens after incessant rain ravaged the Tamil Nadu capital.
Even as Ajinkya Rahane, man-of-the-match for his twin hundreds in India's 337-run win over the Proteas at Delhi's Feroz Shah Kotla, dedicated the victory to the people of Chennai and the Indian Army, Ashwin made no reference to the natural calamity in his native city.
Later, the off-spinner tweeted to say that "happiness had got the better" of him and he dedicated his series award to the "suffering people" of Chennai

Ashwin now holds the joint-record for most number of man-of-the-series awards by Indians. Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag won five such awards in their long careers.
Ashwin is the leading wickettaker in Tests this year with 62 wickets. He has had an amazing run since his debut in 2011. This was his second successive man-of-the-serie, having previously won the award in Sri Lanka, where India completed a historic series win earlier this year.
The 29-year-old spinner said he would not like to join hands with anyone and promised to do what he could for the flood victims in Chennai.

Virat Kohli, who won his maiden Test series at home as skipper, lauded Ashwin and his Tamil Nadu teammate Murali Vijay for their performances against South Africa.
"I would like to dedicate this victory to the victims affected by the Chennai floods. I think that's been a very unfortunate few weeks and my thoughts go out to all the people who have lost their family members," said the skipper while concluding his post-match press conference.
"The family members of some of our players (Vijay and Ashwin) were also stuck in one place for long time, for them to come out and play, shows commendable character. I hope it (victory) brings some joy to the people of Chennai," said Kohli.
