India vs South Africa Stats Highlights: Ashwin, Rahane steal the show

AB de Villiers' slow batting, Umesh Yadav's economical bowling and Ravindra Jadeja's consistency highlighted India's Test series win against South Africa

Rahane buries home ghosts
Most runs
Ajinkya Rahane just needed just one Test match to top the batting charts.  From four Tests, the middle-order batsman aggregated 266 runs in the series, of which 227 were scored in the last Test. AB de Villiers (258 runs) and VIjay (210) were next on the list. Only five batsmen, the other two being Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara, were able to reach the 200-run mark in the series.

Highest team score
We had to wait till the final Test to see the highest team total. India scored 334 in the first innings at the Feroz Shah Kotla. India made four of the top five team totals in the series, which was primarily dominated by the home spinners.
Highest individual score
Rahane was the only centurion in this series. His first innings total of 127 is the highest score by a batsman in this series. He followed that up with a well-paced 100 not out in the second innings as India set South Africa a target of 481 runs.
Highest partnership
Rahane and Kohli stitched the only 100-run partnership of the series, when the two helped India recover from an early collapse in the second innings of the final Test. Ashwin and Rahane had come close to a century-stand in the first innings at the Kota and missed it by two runs.
Highest average - series
Rahane again tops this char, thanks to his unbeaten 100 in the second innings. Rahane had a poor stint at home and averaged less than eight from four Tests until the twin tons at the Kotla.
Most sixes
Rahane hit eight sixes in the series. He is only the second Indian to hit three or more sixes in both innings of a Test after Harbhajan Singh. No other Indian batsman hit more than one six in the series.
Ashwin weaves magic
Most wickets
Ravichandran Ashwin has been India's best bowler at home in the recent past. He has once again lived upto expectations, finishing the four-match Test series with 31 wickets. Except the Bengaluru Test, Ashwin pocketed five-wicket hauls at least once in the other three Tests.

Jadeja, who was equally effective, ended up picking eight less than his partner. But his average of 10.82 betters Ashwin by a margin of 0.30 runs.
South African spinner Imran Tahir and Simon Harmer are in the next two spots with 14 and 10 wickets respectively.
Best Bowling figure
Ashwin had a few delightful sessions on the much-talked-about Nagpur track. He snared 7/66 in the second innings to help India seal the series with one match still left.
Jadeja's figures of 5-21 in Mohali is the next best in the series.
Best economy rate
Umesh Yadav was fiery on Monday. His breakthroughs after tea on Day 5 sealed South Africa's fate in the final Test at the Kotla. The fast bowler bowled tight lines and lengths and was almost impossible to score off. The numbers tell us the story. He bowled with an economy rate of 0.42, which is the second best in Test matches for a bowler who has delivered a minimum of 20 overs.
