Roger Federer, Martina Hingis to form 'dream team' at Rio Olympics

Roger Federer and compatriot Martina Hingis are set to represent Switzerland at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro next year.

The Swiss media called the partnership a 'dream team' after Federer agreed to play with Hingis in the mixed-doubles category.

Hingis had proposed the idea of representing their country at Rio to Federer earlier this year.

"Federer will play with Hingis. It's decided," reports said.

The pairing could be fruitful for Switzerland at Rio as both Federer and Hingis have been in good form lately.

Federer reached the finals of US Open and Australian Open and won his first title on clay in six years at the Istanbul Open.

Hingis' pairing with Indian tennis star Sania Mirza was highly successful as the duo won the Australian Open and the Wimbledon earlier this year. She paired with Leander Paes at the Australian Open to clinch the doubles title. Hingis and Mirza went on to win the WTA tour finals.

2015 was a splendid year in Hingis career, which was marred by allegations of the Swiss using drugs.

Wawrinka is Federer's doubles partner

Federer is expected to play with countryman and World No. 4 Stan Wawrinka in the doubles category at Rio, confirmed media reports.

Hingis will contest the women's doubles with Belinda Bencic.
